
Smart Material is utilizing a textile spinning method to manufacture green PZT fibers. The manufacturing process is based on the ALCERU® method of our partner Smart Fiber AG, Germany. The patented manufacturing method allows for the production of fibers and tubes of various diameters and length.

Our current standard diameters for PZT fibers are 105µm, 250µm and 800µm. Available PZT-systems are ranging from Navy type II to Navy type VI. Smart Material is utilizing PZT powders from Ceramtec AG.

PZT fibers typically do not reach the full bulk PZT material properties, due to the much smaller sintered volume properties. Normally, calculating with about 75% of the bulk ceramic characteristics is yielding satisfactory results for most applications.
PZT tubes are available on special request only
with typical 1mm and 400µm OD (outer diameter).

Please note that we ship all PZT fibers and tubes un-poled and not electroded. Proper equipment and experience is required for polarization and electroding of PZT material.
