System Dynamics Inc. demonstrates Fully Solid State UAV based on MFCs

 

System Dynamics Inc., Gainesville, FL has demonstrated a UAV developed under a US government contract, which is fully flight controlled by morphing the wings with MFCs. Except for the electric propeller engine no moving parts are on board of this radio controlled airplane.

The original development of Solid State UAVs based on MFCs was started by Prof. Daniel Inman, Dr. John Ohanian and Dr. Onur Bilgen in 2007 at Virginiatech. First flights were published in 2007. The ongoing development at Virginiatech has spawned several additional development projects for solid state UAVs, mostly financed by the US government.during the past years.

AM Power Systems and Smart Material sign distribution sales agreement

 

AM Power Systems of Dayton, Nevada and Smart Material Corp. are pleased to announce a distribution sales agreement effective February 1, 2011.

This agreement will establish AM Power Systems as the supplier of battery operated piezo-electric power supplies used by Smart Materials for the Macro Fiber Composite actuator used in many advanced, battery operated applications such as unmanned aerial or underwater vehicles (UAV / UUV), energy harvesting applications, vibration suppression and other sensitive medical, military and industrial applications.

This agreement covers presently available products i.e. AMD2012-CE2 and CE3 , as well as other future power supplies needed for Smart Material products.

Powerleap and Smart Material are cooperating in Energy Harvesting systems

 

POWERLeap, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Smart Material Corp. signed a cooperation agreement for developing and manufacturing energy harvesting modules and devices.

Elizabeth Redmond, CEO of POWERleap stated during a recent meeting:

"After years of scanning the field, we’ve selected Smart Materials for their expertise in piezo device manufacture. Together we’ve developed an incredibly durable product  with applications across a diverse market array. "
